SAINT LEO, Fla. – Tied at nine points apiece,
Fiona McLaughlin broke through the Florida Tech Panther's defense and netted the game-winner with a mere three seconds to spare. The thrilling 10-9 Sunshine State Conference victory raised the Lions' overall record to 5-8, 2-1 in the SSC Saturday night inside University Turf Stadium. The decision handed the Panthers their second loss of the season, as the conference foes' record now reflects an 8-2 season mark, 1-2 in the league.
In addition to dub, Saint Leo celebrated its' newest season assist record holder in
Meghan Bomleny. Bomleny tallied three assists against Florida Tech to record her 23 assists of the season, breaking Caroline Fraser's record of 22 in 2017.
Saint Leo found themselves behind by a pair of goals after the first quarter. The Green and Gold rallied a 3-1 second-quarter score to level the scoreboard at five goals apiece at halftime.
The Saint Leo defense shut out the Panther's offense in the third while
Lia Lamendola and
Kaci Archer, assisted by Bomleny, recorded two for the Lions.
The dramatic four-quarter saw both teams match each other; goal for goal.
Goalkeeper
Makayla Goetz registered 11 saves in 60 minutes of work in between the pipes.
Saint Leo returns to action on the road on Wednesday, April 13 at Florida Southern. The Lions and Mocs' first draw is set for 4:00 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.
