SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball got a huge win in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday against Florida Tech, 8-0.
The Lions got a great performance from starter
Rachel Bean, who went six innings giving up just four hits and shutting out the Panthers. She also recorded four strikeouts and did not walk anybody. It was Bean's eighth win of the season as she is now 8-3 on the season.Â
The Lions offense started in the first inning on a two-run home run from
Isabella Andujar, her fourth home run of the season, to put the Lions on top, 2-0, after the first inning.Â
Then in the bottom of the third, with the bases loaded and two out,
Hope Epps hit a deep drive to left center that was dropped by Florida Tech's center fielder and allowed three runs to come home and score and extend the Lions' lead to 5-0. In the fifth inning,Â
Jordyn Wolfe became the team-leader in triples with her fourth of the year on a pinch hit assignment when she laced a ball down the right field line that scored
Hope Epps and made it 7-0 Saint Leo. The Lions got their eighth run on a RBI bunt from
Caroline Barwick, and with
Alexandra Hare on second, she raced around third and scored the winning run.Â
Saint Leo moved to 21-13 on the season and 10-10 in the SSC before facing Florida Tech in game two on Saturday.Â
