SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball fell in game two to Florida Tech, dropping the series finale, 2-1, to the Panthers.
The Lions went into the seventh inning up 1-0 on Florida Tech. A
Hope Epps RBI single in the first inning was the only offense for the majority of the day for either team, and gave Saint Leo a chance to sweep the Panthers. However, in the top of the seventh, back-to-back home runs to left by the Panthers with one out off
Kayla Betts propelled Florida Tech over the Lions, 2-1. Saint Leo was unable to stage a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, and split the doubleheader with Florida Tech.
Kayla Betts got the start for Saint Leo, and despite being three outs away from a complete-game shutout, still had a phenomenal day in the circle. She allowed just one hit in the first six innings of work for the Lions, to go along with just one walk. She also finished with three strikeouts.
The Lions fell to 21-14 on the season and 11-10 in the conference before hosting Flagler this coming Wednesday for a doubleheader at University Softball Stadium at 3:00 PM.
