SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball welcomed the Flagler Saints to University Softball Stadium on Wednesday evening and split the pair.
GAME ONE
In game one, the Lions got all the offense they needed in the first and second innings. In the first,
Emily Pilon drove in
Bayley Williams on a one-out RBI double to left center that put the Lions on top, 1-0. Then with two on and one out,
Kendyl Crean hit a sac-fly to center that allowed Pilon to come home and make it 2-0. That was followed by a
Hope Epps RBI single to left that scored Williams, and the Lions were in charge of a 3-0 lead.Â
Then in the second, Saint Leo got two on with nobody out that set up a
Bayley Williams RBI double that brought home
Jordyn Wolfe, giving the Lions a 4-0 lead. Then
Alexandra Hare hit a grounder to second that the Saints made no play at home on, bringing home
Caroline Barwick and making it 5-0 Lions.Â
Morgan Shannon got the complete game win in game one, throwing seven innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking one and striking out five. She is now 8-5 on the year.Â
GAME TWO
In game two, the Lions had a harder time finding any offense. Flagler's Madelyn Wise held the Lions to just five hits in the game and they stranded four runners on the base paths through the seven innings. Saint Leo did spark a rally in the bottom of the seventh to get on the board, however.
Hope Epps singled to get the tying run on base, and then moved to second on a stolen base.
Madyson Coe then laced a two-out single to left that sent Epps home, but the Saints gunned her down at the plate to end the ballgame.Â
Despite picking up the loss,
Rachel Bean had a great start. She threw seven innings, giving up just one run on three hits, walking one, and striking out six. She is now 8-4 on the season. Flagler's only run came in the first inning on a RBI single.Â
After the doubleheader, Saint Leo is now 22-15 on the season and will have a week off before heading to Florida Southern on Wednesday, April 20 for a non-SSC doubleheader with the Moccassins.Â
