MELBOURNE, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball used four home runs to ultimately defeat Florida Tech in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday, 5-4, to run their win streak to four games.Â
The Lions were down 4-1 going into the seventh inning. Having already homered once in the game to give the Lions their first run,
Bobby Sparling drilled a one-out solo shot to right field to pull the Lions to within one, 4-2.Â
Then in the eighth, the Lions got another run back when
Yazael Nunez singled home
Mike Wyman to make the score 4-3, still in favor of Florida Tech.Â
But the comeback was complete when the leaders in home runs for Saint Leo when deep twice. First, it was
Bobby Sparling, who went deep for the third time in the game. This time it was a game-tying bomb to center for his league-leading 20th home run of the year, and his 57th RBI of the season. And then in the very next at bat,
Adrien Roa went yard to right to give the Lions a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning with no outs. It was Roa's ninth home run of the season and his 18th RBI of the season.Â
Jestin Jones came on in the bottom of the ninth and sat the Panthers down in order for his sixth save of the season. The Lions now improve to 26-12 on the year and 12-8 in the Sunshine State Conference.Â
