SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball used clutch hitting and base-running on Friday night to walk-off 2-1 against Florida Tech at University Softball Stadium.
Down 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth,
Emily Pilon hit her seventh home run of the season on a one-out solo shot to deep left to tie the ballgame at 1-1. The SSC Player of the Week drove in her 32nd RBI of the season on the home run to kee p Saint Leo in the ballgame.
Then in the bottom of the seventh,
Kendyl Crean led the inning off with her second double of the night on a drive to left that nearly cleared the wall, putting her in scoring position to win the game. After Crean would be pinch run for by
Ciara Ford,
Hope Epps hit a sharp grounder to second that the second baseman came home with, but Ford eluded the tag and scored the game-winning run to walk-it-off for the Lions and give Saint Leo the series opening weekend.
Morgan Shannon was phenomenal once again in getting her seventh win of the season. Shannon went the complete seven innings giving up just one run on three hits, while striking out eight.
The Lions move to 20-13 on the season and 9-10 in the conference before playing the Panthers in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00.
