Lions' Offense Explodes For Game One Win Over Sharks on Sunday

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball got back on the winning track on Sunday in game one of their doubleheader against Nova Southeastern with a 15-4 win.

The Lions had a four-inning onslaught from the third inning to the six inning where they could not stop scoring. In the third inning, after getting the eight and nine batters on, Buck Anderson delivered a RBI double down the left field line that brought home Bryan Pena from third and gave the Lions a 1-0 lead. The next at bat featured Tyler Trovinger delivering a two-run double to left center that brought home Yazael Nunez and Buck Anderson, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead. Then Sam Crail delivered a RBI double to left center that brought home Trovinger, and made it 4-0 Saint Leo.

In the fourth inning, Adrien Roa led it off with a double right. He then moved over to third on a beautiful Dylan McDonald bunt single that put runners on the corners for the Lions. Then with one out, Nunez hit his first home run of the year, a three-run home run to left field that broke the game open for the Lions, leading 3-0 going into the fifth inning.

After the Sharks got a run back in the top of the fifth, Saint Leo tacked on four more runs in the bottom half of the fifth. Bobby Sparling led the inning off with his SSC leading 16th home run of the season, a solo blast over the wall in left that extended the lead to 8-1. Saint Leo then loaded the bases with one out and allowed Nunez to do more damage on a two-run single to center that made it a nine-run game. Buck Anderson added another RBI on the day to his stat line with a sac-fly to left, giving the Lions a ten-run lead at 11-1.

The Lions weren't done yet, however. In the sixth inning, they loaded the bases with two out and rattled Nova Southeastern's pitcher to the point he hit Bryan Pena and walked in a run to make it 12-1 Lions. Nunez then brought home two more on a RBI single to center and made it 14-1 Saint Leo.

Nunez finished his day with seven RBI's, going 4-for-5 at the plate and scored two runs. Buck Anderson also had a great day, going 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Bryan Pena went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI's.

The Lions also got a great start from Jared Beck, who earned his third win of the season. Beck went five innings giving up just one run on three hits while walking four and striking out five.

Saint Leo moves to 22-12 on the year and 9-8 in the Sunshine State Conference with the game one win before finishing the series against Nova Southeastern in game two on Sunday.
