Lions Comeback To Sweep Doubleheader Against Sharks

Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball swept their doubleheader against Nova Southeastern on Sunday with a comeback win in game two, taking down the Sharks 5-3. 

The Lions got on the board first in the bottom of the third with two runs. After Yazael Nunez singled and Buck Anderson doubled, Tyler Trovinger brought home the games first run on a RBI groundout to second, scoring Nunez to make it 1-0 Saint Leo. Then Sam Crail singled on a hard hit ball to second that scored Anderson and gave the Lions a two-run lead. 

But back came Nova Southeastern with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth. A RBI double and sac RBI groundout enabled the Sharks to tie the ballgame at 2-2 going into the fifth. 

With Nova Southeastern then leading by just a run, 3-2, going into seventh inning, Adrien Roa belted his seventh home run of the year to deep right field, tying the ballgame at 3-3. 

The comeback was complete in the bottom of the eighth. After Tyler Trovinger led the inning off with a single, Bobby Sparling brought him home with a RBI double down the left field line that scored Trovinger all the way from first and gave the Lions a 4-3 lead. Saint Leo then made it 5-3 in the very next at bat when Eddie Niemann singled home Sparling. 

Jestin Jones was able to then close it out with his fifth win of the season, sitting down the Sharks in order in the ninth. 

Saint Leo improves to 23-12 on the season and 10-8 in the Sunshine State Conference before heading to Eckerd for a non-conference matchup with the Tritons this coming Tuesday.
