Crean's Home Run, Shannon's Strong Start Take Over Sailfish

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball took the first game of the series from Palm Beach Atlantic in a low-scoring affair on Friday night, 3-0, at University Softball Stadium.

Scoreless after the first inning-and-a-third and a 45-minute lightning delay, Kendyl Crean took the first pitch she saw after the restart to deep center for her fourth home run of the season to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

The Lions extended their lead to 3-0 in the sixth. First it was Isabella Andujar bringing home Jordyn Wolfe from second on a single to center. Then after Caroline Barwick came in to pinch run for Andujar, she advanced to third on a passed ball. That allowed Kendyl Crean to bring her home to score on a double to center, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead.

Morgan Shannon went the distance for Saint Leo for her 11th complete game of the season. She finished with one run on eight hits and five strikeouts, giving up just two walks to earn her 10th win of the season.

The Lions now move to 25-16 on the season and 13-12 in the Sunshine State Conference, and will wrap up their home schedule tomorrow at 9:30 AM for a doubleheader with the Sailfish.
