Saint Leo Takes Game One Of Twin-Bill At Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball found their way once again in Daytona Beach, taking down Embry-Riddle, 4-0, in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday.

The Lions got their offense going in the third inning. After Caroline Barwick bunted her way on, she stole second and got to third on a wild pitch. Barwick then scored when Bayley Williams reached on a fielders choice to make it 1-0 Saint Leo. Alexandra Hare then brought Williams home on a RBI single to center field to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. After reaching third on a wild pitch, Hare would then score on the third wild pitch of the inning to make it a three-run advantage. That was immediately followed by Isabella Andujar's fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left making it 4-0 Saint Leo. The inning then continued with a two-out double from Jordyn Wolfe who then scored on a RBI single from Madyson Coe, giving the Lions a 5-0 lead after three.

After the Eagles got to within two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Lions got a run back with a one-out single from Alexandra Hare that scored Caroline Barwick, giving the Lions a 6-3 lead in the sixth.

Rachel Bean got the start in the circle for the Lions. She went five innings giving up three runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Morgan Shannon came on in the sixth and closed out the last two innings for the Lions, retiring the Eagles in order.

Saint Leo moves to 24-15 on the season and 12-11 in the Sunshine State Conference with the win before facing off with Embry-Riddle in game two of the doubleheader to finish off the series.
