DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball had to go to extra innings on Friday night at Embry-Riddle, but once again closed it out in the eighth inning to take down the Eagles, 4-3.Â
The Lions were tied in the eighth inning, 1-1, with Embry-Riddle, but said, "Enough was enough," and struck for three runs in the eighth. And this was all with two outs. With two on and two out,
Jordyn Wolfe broke the tie and brought home
Emily Pilon to give the Lions a 2-1 lead in extras. That was immediately followed by a two-run double from
Madyson Coe, who brought home Wolfe and
Kendyl Crean, to give the Lions a 4-3 lead. And that one extra run would prove to be crucial in the bottom of the eighth.Â
In the home half of the extra frame, the Eagles were able to load the bases with no outs due to a couple errors from Saint Leo. A two-run single from Embry-Riddle pulled the Eagles to within a run with nobody out, and it was nail biting time for the Green & Gold. But
Morgan Shannon was not going to give up this game and got the final two batters to groundout and fy into a double play to end the rally from the Eagles and secure the win for Saint Leo.Â
Shannon went eight innings for her ninth win of the season. She gave up three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. And
Madyson Coe had a season-high three RBI's on the night to lift the Lions over the top.Â
Saint Leo moves to 23-15 on the season and gets back to .500 in the Sunshine State Conference before facing Embry-Riddle in a doubleheader on Saturday to finish their series.Â
