FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball fell in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday morning to Nova Southeastern, 8-7, after the Sharks completed a comeback in the sixth inning.Â
The Lions got out to a big lead in the third inning to lead 7-2. With the game tied at 2-2, Saint Leo loaded the bases with nobody out and went on to do damage on the base paths.
Emily Pilon moved everyone over on a RBI walk to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.
Rachel Bean was then hit by a pitch to again keep the train moving and make it 4-2 Saint Leo. It was then
Kendyl Crean who lined a single to left to give Saint Leo a 5-2 lead in the third inning, still with no outs. After a double play,
Hope Epps reached on an error on the infield that allowed two runs to come home and score and deliver a big blow to Nova Southeastern, extending the Lions' lead to 7-2.Â
However, Nova Southeastern was down but not out. They creaped back into the ballgame with a single run in the fourth and fifth innings. It was then the sixth inning that they completed their comeback. All with two outs, the Sharks cut the lead to one on a two-run single on the infield that made it a 7-6 game. They then tied the game on a simple RBI single to right and took the lead on a RBI single to right with the run unearned.Â
The Lions drop game two and fall to 19-12 on the season and 8-9 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Lions and Sharks will finish the series with game three as part of the doubleheader on Saturday.Â
