Cardiac Lions! Green & Gold Comeback Again to Beat Eagles!

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball stayed strong and dug deep on Wednesday night to beat Minnesota-Crookston, 12-7, and run their win streak to seven in a row going into this weekend.

The story of the ballgame came down to the eighth inning. Both the Lions and Golden Eagles were in a tight 5-4 battle with Saint Leo holding the one-run advantage. But in the top of the eighth, Minnesota-Crookston broke through for three runs to take a 7-5 lead over Saint Leo going into the bottom of the eighth.

That's when Saint Leo mounted another comeback, much like they did last Thursday against Kentucky Wesleyan, in the bottom of the eighth. Paul Coumoulos entered the ballgame as a pinch hitter and led off the inning with a single. Then Yazael Nunez lined a one-out single to left to get the tying run on base and bring the winning run to the plate. That's when Buck Anderson completed his 2-for-5 night with a single to load the bases for the Lions. After a pitching change from the Golden Eagles, Sam Crail hit a hard ground ball between first and second that was thrown away by the second baseman on a double play attempt that allowed Coumoulos and Nunez to both come home and score and tie the ballgame at 7-7.

Then with two on and one out, the Eagles then threw a wild pitch back to the backstop that allowed Anderson to come home and score and give the Lions an 8-7 lead. But Saint Leo did not stop there. Mikey Scott hit a three-run double to the gap in right center that broke it open for the Lions for his second double of the year and seven RBI's.

Kaelan Racculia came on in the top of the ninth to close the door on the Golden Eagles and secure the 12-7 win for the Lions. Saint Leo has now won seven in a row going into their weekend series with Barry at home.
