SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball took down SSC rival Barry on Friday night in dominant fashion, 13-0, to improve their win streak to eight games.
For their first shutout of the season, the Lions got a strong start from ace
Jared Beck. Beck threw seven shutout innings, striking out 12 for his second consecutive double-digit strikeout game. He gave up just four hits and two walks while earning his second straight win in as many starts on the season.
Beck was not the only story of the night, however. The Lions brought out the bats to put up 13 runs on the Buccaneers. Saint Leo had numbers across the scoreboard in every inning except the second. The scoring started when
Bobby Sparling hit his team-leading and SSC leading 11th home run of the season to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. He then continued his dominant night in the third inning with a RBI single that scored
Sam Crail and another RBI single in the fifth that, again, scored Crail.
There were plenty of other Lions who contributed on the night, as well.
Yazael Nunez added to his total with his 15th RBI of the year when he singled
Mike Wyman home in the fourth inning that gave Saint Leo a 3-0 lead.
Tyler Trovinger recorded his second triple of the season on a three-run inside-the-park-home run, scoring on an error. Wyman also hit his third home run of the season in the eighth inning that made it 12-0 Lions.
Saint Leo and Barry will be back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader to wrap up their three-game weekend series at Thomas B. Southard Stadium starting at 1:00 PM.
