SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball made it two in a row over Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader, 4-1.
Jared Beck got the start for
Rick O'Dette and the Lions was simply dominant against the Panthers. Beck threw a complete-game performance in seven innings of the shortened game one, throwing 14 strikeouts to give him his season high, giving up just two run on two hits and not giving up a single walk. It was Beck's best outing of the season to this point in the season, leading to his first win of the campaign.
Saint Leo got the offensive help for Beck in the second inning. After
Giuseppe Arcuri drew an one-out walk and
Tyler Trovinger drew a two-out walk,
Yazael Nunez delivered his 12th RBI of the year on a RBI single to left, advancing to second, to put Saint Leo on top of Kentucky Wesleyan, 1-0. Then in the bottom of the third, the Lions tacked on two more runs. With the bases loaded,
Mikey Scott hit a hard grounder to short that the Panthers were unable to turn a double play on, allowing a run to come home and score give the Lions a 2-0 lead. With runners on the corners, Saint Leo got a double steal when Scott stole second and
Mike Wyman charged home and slid in safely to make it 3-0 Lions.
After Kentucky Wesleyan homered off Beck in the top of the fourth, Saint Leo got the run back with a
Sam Crail RBI single that brought home
Yazael Nunez to give the Lions a 4-1 lead.
Saint Leo moved to 10-7 on the season going into their second game of the doubleheader on Friday.
