Lions Drop First Game of Doubleheader At #20 Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball dropped the first game of a doubleheader with #20 Rollins on Saturday, 5-4 in Winter Park.

In game one, the Lions got out to a big 3-0 lead early in the first inning. With Jordyn Wolfe on second and one out, Alexandra Hare singled her home and advanced to second to put Saint Leo on top 1-0. After Isabella Andujar singled to get Hare to third, Kendyl Crean moved everyone over to score Hare and put the Lions in front 2-0. Then with the bases loaded, Emily Pilon recorded another RBI scoring Andujar and making Saint Leo's lead 3-0.

Andujar then extended the Lions' lead to 4-0 with her second home run of the season, a solo shot on a 3-1 pitch to lead off the third inning.

But back came Rollins with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning on an one-out grand slam to tie the ballgame at 4-4. It was then the long ball again that hurt Saint Leo in the sixth inning when Rollins took the lead for good with a solo home run to left center, taking a 5-4 lead.

The Lions' starting pitcher Rachel Bean went 2.1 innings of work, giving up four runs on six hits while walking two. She was relieved by Kayla Betts who went the last 3.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit and striking out two.

The loss dropped the Lions to 18-10 having lost their last six games on the year and now sit at 7-7 in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo and Rollins will wrap up their three-game series with game two of the doubleheader on Saturday.
