Fregio Has Career Day, Baseball Takes Down #9 Rollins In Saturday Battle

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball got one of its biggest wins of the year on Saturday at Thomas B. Southard Stadium, taking down NCBWA #9 Rollins, 6-4, in game two of the three-game series.

Dariel Fregio pitched a complete for the Lions, battling to keep Saint Leo's lead intact the whole game. Fregio, in his eighth start of the year, gave up four runs, two of them earned, on just four hits while striking out a season high and career high 10 hitters. It was a career day for Fregio and his fifth win of the season to move his record to 5-2 on the year.

Saint Leo got on the scoreboard first when Bobby Sparling lined a single down the left field line that scored Sam Crail from third, who reached third base with a two-out triple, his fifth of the season. The Lions then put the foot on the gas in the second inning. With two on and nobody out, Tyler Trovinger recorded his tenth RBI of the season on a single that scored Eddie Niemann from third. A throwing error from Rollins' pitcher then brought home Paul Coumoulos, who started his day with a double, to put the Lions on top, 3-0. The scoring in the second was concluded when Dylan McDonald, getting his tenth start of the year, upped his RBI total to 11 on a two-run single to left that brought home Trovinger and Yazael Nunez, making the lead 5-0 for Saint Leo.

After the Tars got a run back in the third, Adrien Roa said no so fast in the bottom half on his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot that just got over the wall in left to extend the Lions' lead to 6-1.

The Lions now move to 20-10 on the season and 7-7 in the SSC before looking to take the series against Rollins on Sunday afternoon at Thomas B. Southard Stadium for the final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00.
