Lions run win streak to 13 in win over Kentucky Wesleyan

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball ran their win streak to 13 in a row with a 9-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday night at University Softball Stadium.

Morgan Shannon had the start for the Lions and was dominant in her fifth win of the season, pitching five innings and striking out four batters. Shannon gave up just one hit, and that one hit brought home the only run for the Panthers on a solo home run that led off the fourth inning. But Shannon was able to retire the next three batters and slow down any rally Kentucky Wesleyan had in them.

Saint Leo showed their offense early and late. Emily Pilon got the scoring started with her team-leading fifth home run of the season. With Jordyn Wolfe on first, Pilon roped a liner over the wall in left field to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. The home run also gave Pilon 20 RBI's on the season. Pilon now leads the Sunshine State Conference in home runs and RBI's.

The offense continued for the Lions in the second. After Bayley Williams reached on a single, Ciara Ford tripled her home for her first triple of the season and her eighth RBI on the year. Saint Leo led 3-0 after two innings.

In the third inning, the Lions put up six runs to break out for a 9-0 lead. Isabella Andujar, with two runners on, took the Panthers deep to left for a three-run home run, giving Saint Leo a 6-0 lead. It was Andujar's first home run of the season. Then with the bases loaded, Ciara Ford grounded out to second to bring home Caroline Barwick and extend the lead to 7-0. It was Jordyn Wolfe who then cleared the bases and gave Saint Leo a 9-0 lead with her third triple of the season and 10th RBI, scoring Alexandra Hare and Maydson Coe. Wolfe attempted to make it an inside-the-park home run, but was tagged out at home.

The Lions extended their win streak to 13 in a row with the game one win, and now sit at 15-2 on the year.
