SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball came out on top in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Mars Hill after an explosive six-run first inning en route to securing a 16-5 win.
The Lions brought home six runs on five hits in the first inning, including three straight RBI singles from
Bobby Sparling,
Paul Coumoulos, and Eddie Niemann. A wild pitch allowed Coumoulos to then come home and score the fifth run of the inning, which was followed by a
Yazael Nunez RBI groundout.
Saint Leo's offense was not done after the first inning. The Lions proceeded to strike for three runs in the second, third, and fourth innings.
Bobby Sparling had an RBI double in the bottom of the second followed by a two-run single by Niemann.
In the bottom of the third,
Sam Crail delivered the Lions' first home run of the season with a three-run bomb to left that really broke the game open to make it 12-4 Saint Leo.

Dariel Fregio got his first win of the season going five innings, giving up four runs on six hits. The only trouble Fregio ran into was in the third inning, when an RBI double by Mars Hill's Scottie Lee started a potential threat from the blue and gold, but was halted after the third.
Mars Hill's starter AJ Chacon suffered the loss, lasting only one inning, giving up six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
Saint Leo advanced to 2-0 on the season, while Mars Hill dropped their second straight game to start the season.
