SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball came up short on Saturday evening in game two of a doubleheader with Mars Hill, falling to the opposing Lions, 7-6, in ten innings.Â
Saint Leo put together a couple of rallies late in the ballgame. With Mars Hill leading 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Green and Gold used a passed ball to cut the lead to two when
Dylan McDonald raced home to score and beat the throw. NCBWA Preseason All-American
Paul Coumoulos would then bring the Lions to within one on an RBI double that scored Crail.Â
The Lions would grab even more life when they tied the game in the seventh inning. A
Mike Wyman sac fly RBI to shallow right brought home
Bobby Sparling from third and tied the game at 5-5. And then in the ninth inning, they would force extras when Niemann hit a sac fly that scored Crail.Â
However, it was Mars Hill who would grab the final lead of the night in the tenth when Alex Naran singled Tanner Hodgson to make it 7-6 Mars Hill.Â
Saint Leo starter
Brayden Heidel put together five tough innings to try and limit the damage as much as possible. Heidel gave up five earned runs on seven hits, striking out three while walking two.
Luke Lashutka made his Saint Leo debut in relief and went 2.2 innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out three.Â
Mars Hill captured their first win of the season while handing Saint Leo their first loss. Both teams will be back in action for the final game of the four-game series on Sunday at Thomas B. Southard Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 1:00.Â
