Betts throws no-hitter, strikes out 15 in win over Lynn

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball continued their winning streak with a 7-0 win over Lynn on Friday night at home behind a no-hitter and career day from Kayla Betts

Betts threw her first career no-hitter, striking out 15 Knights, while walking just three batters. In the first inning, Betts struck out the first three batters for her first three punch outs. In the third inning, after walking the first batter, Betts went on to get the next three Knights swinging to get her number to seven strike outs. She then went on to get two more strikeouts in the fourth, two in  the fifth, and then finished her no-hitter with three strike outs in the seventh inning.

Betts got offensive help all night from the Lions' lineup. In the bottom of the second, Emily Pilon singled home Isabella Andujar to get the Lions on the board first, 1-0. That was followed by a huge Alexandra Hare RBI triple to bring home Pilon and make it 2-0. Bayley Williams completed the three-run inning with a RBI single to score Hare and give Saint Leo a 3-0 lead.

The other big inning was in the bottom of the fourth. With two on and two out, Kendyl Crean lined a single to left to score Madyson Coe and jump the lead to 4-0. Then Jordyn Wolfe grounded a pitch past a diving shortstop into center field to give the Lions a 5-0 lead.

Then in the fourth, Alyssa Perez singled home Ciara Ford on a hard ground ball to second. In the sixth inning, Emily Pilon homered to deep center for her fourth home run of the season and her 14th RBI.

Betts moves to 4-2 on the season with the complete-game shutout, and the Lions as a team move to 10-2 on the year and 4-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Lions and Knights will be back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
