TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team gave the Spartans of Tampa, ranked 18
th nationally, a tough battle but would ultimately fall short 78-60 Wednesday inside the Bob Martinez Athletic Center. The Sunshine State Conference decision moved the Spartans' record to 25-4 overall, 16-3 in the league while Saint Leo moved to 16-11 on the year, 11-8 in the SSC.
Kiki McIntyre led the Lions' efforts against the Spartans. The sophomore guard tallied a team-high 22 points helped by
Alex Button with 11 points. The duo strung together a series of runs but would prove too little against the SSC foes. Off the iron,
Alayna Harris had another big day. The sophomore from York, Pa. snagged 10 rebounds for the Green and Gold.
The Spartans were able to record a brief double-digit lead in the second quarter before the Lions put together five points.

Tori Lesko pulled down a defensive rebound and set up
Amanda Ulrich to add another three-pointer to her tally. The run brought the game within five at 32-27 with 3:07 left in the half. Saint Leo edged Tampa 4-3 with the remaining time for a 35-31 score at the break.
The hosts came out and outscored the Lions 10-4 to extend the gap back to double-digits. Button continued to make things rough for the Spartans. The senior guard made another jumper, earned a steal, and finished the combo play with a bucket from downtown. The run brought the Lions within three at 47-44 with 3:57 left in the third. The offensive burst was matched by Tampa to end the quarter ahead 57-47.
Saint Leo was unable to upend Tampa in the final quarter despite the Lions' efforts including a series of free throws.
The Lions will close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb 26 on the road at Barry. Tip-off in Miami Shores, Fla. is set for 2:00 p.m. Currently, Saint Leo is seed fifth in the conference. For more information about the SSC Tournament visit the conference webpage at
