Women’s Basketball Flexes at Barry; Lions Earn SSC Championship Hosting Rights

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions finished the regular season in the win column after defeating Barry 80-63 on Saturday. The Green and Gold posted 20 points or more in three quarters while the defense held the Buccaneers to nine points in the third. The statement win secures a fourth-place seed in the Sunshine State Conference rankings, earning home-court advantage in the SSC Tournament Quarterfinals. The conference postseason is set to begin on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m.

Head Coach Anthony Crocitto has led the Lions to the most conference wins in program history. The regular-season finale raised the team's overall record to 17-11, 12-8 in the league.

Crocitto commented, "What a massive win considering the past couple of weeks and the immense implications of this road game.

"Tori Lesko played on another level, but I wouldn't expect anything less from the reigning SSC Newcomer of the Year.

"Amanda Ulrich. Wow. Her day had great defense, great approach, and might be her best game in uniform, ever.

"Alex Button was so proficient on both ends. She came up huge for us during the second half while.

"Tamara Shash's energy was intoxicating. She handled the press break and gave us major leadership."

Ulrich whipped up 24 points in the victory going 8-for-16 from the field (.500), 2-for-4 (.500) from the three-point range, and 6-for-8 (.750) from the free-throw line. She was joined in scoring double-digits by Button (20), and Lesko (19). Button went 7-for-11 (.636) from the hardwood, sunk 3-of-5 (.600) from downtown and made all three of her shots at the line. Lesko went 7-for-16 all from the two-point range. She also added five points from the charity stripe.

Lesko brought home a double-double after leading the Lions off the glass. She snagged 12 rebounds featuring eight offensive and four defensive boards.

"We are so excited to host once again and hope everyone comes out to support these women," concluded Crocitto.

On Tuesday, March 1 the rematch between the teams will be held inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center. The fourth-seed Lions will host the fifth-seed Bucs starting at 7:00 p.m.
