Lions Sweep Mocs, Run Win Streak to Seven Straight

SAINT LEO, Fla. - In game two of their doubleheader on Saturday, Saint Leo Softball got another outstanding performance from ace Kayla Betts who went the distance for the fourth time en route to the Lions shutting out Florida Southern, 7-0, to sweep the three-game series.

Kayla Betts threw seven complete innings, giving up just four hits and one walk, while punching out five batters. Through the second to fourth innings, Betts retired nine straight batters, with the Mocs sitting down in order in three straight innings. She was also assisted with some incredible defense in the fourth inning, when shortstop Alyssa Perez went back to her left in shallow left field to make a diving catch for the first out of the inning. And then the inning was completed two batters later when third baseman Alexandra Hare made a diving catch over the third base line.

The Lions got exploded their lead out to 5-0 with a four-run fifth inning. An error in left first allowed Jordyn Wolfe to come around and score their second run, which moved Kayleice Hooks to third. Perez followed with a RBI groundout to score Hooks that made the score 3-0. With the bases loaded, Isabella Andujar hit a hard grounder to third that allowed Ciara Ford to come home and score, giving Saint Leo a 4-0 lead. And then Bayley Williams singled home Emily Pilon that gave the Lions a 6-0 lead.

Alyssa Perez also recorded her second triple of the year and ninth RBI on a hard hit ball to the gap in left that scored Caroline Barwick that gave the Green and Gold a 6-0 lead.

Saint Leo now moves to 9-2 on the season and 3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference before taking on Lynn in a three-game series next Friday and Saturday at home.
