LAKELAND, Fla. - It was another offensive-heavy day for Saint Leo Baseball in Lakeland taking on Florida Southern, as the Lions powered their way to a 10-7 win to even the series after two games.Â
Buck Anderson got the scoring started by coming home on a wild pitch that gave Saint Leo a 1-0 lead. Then in the second the Lions grabbed a 2-0 lead on a
Peyton Meredith sacrifice fly to left that scored
Adrien Roa.Â
The Moccasins were able to then tie the game at 2-2 after four innings via RBI single in the second and then a home run in the fourth. But back came the Lions with home runs of their own.
Sam Crail homered for the second time this season with a two-run home run in the fifth that gave the Lions a 4-2 lead after five. And then after the Mocs homered again to tie the game at 4-4 in the sixth,
Bobby Sparling hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot that put the Lions on top, 6-4.Â
Saint Leo found themselves in a tie ballgame once again in the eighth with the score even at 6-6. That's when
Peyton Meredith found a hole on the left side to bring home
Zach Benson, giving the Lions a 7-6 lead. Then on an error by the first baseman, Meredith was able to come around and score to extend the lead to 8-6. Saint Leo took their largest lead of the game when
Bobby Sparling hit another two-run shot, his fifth of the season, giving the Lions a 10-6 lead.Â
Sparling's five home runs are tied for the most in the Sunshine State Conference, and he now leads the league in RBI's with 19. His 20 hits is also the most amongst the SSC.Â
Saint Leo now sits at 7-4 on the year and 1-1 in the SSC. The Lions and Mocs will finish out the series on Sunday with first pitch set for 1:00 in Lakeland.Â
