ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - After a hour rain delay on Sunday morning, Saint Leo defeated Lenoir-Rhyne for the second time, 6-1, on day two of the Old Coast Classic hosted by Flagler College.Â
Kayla Betts had yet another dominant start on the season. Entering as the strikeouts leader on the team, but not yet having a decision under her name, the sophomore from Leesburg, Florida finally got that win she's been waiting for. Betts pitched a complete-game giving up just one run on five hits while striking out six Bears. She forced the Bears to strand five runners on the day.Â
On the other side, Lenoir-Rhyne's Morgan Beeler had a strong start as well, but Saint Leo was able to get to her enough early and late to help out their rising star pitcher. The Lions got on the board first in the second inning thanks to an
Alexandra Hare two-run home run to right, Hare's first home run of the season. Later in the fifth inning, a throwing error from the Bears on a
Caroline Barwick stolen base might have cost them a run, allowing Barwick to advance to third, and then
Alyssa Perez grounding out to second that scored Barwick.
Saint Leo would have to wait out yet another rain delay before finishing out the ballgame. They tacked on two more runs out of the delay in the bottom of the sixth. The Lions made it 5-0 on a bases-loaded walk and then 6-0 on an
Alyssa Perez sacrifice fly-out.Â
Alexandra Hare went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI's.
Bayley Williams went 2-for-3 as well for the Lions.
Alyssa Perez, although went 0-for-2, finished with two RBI's.Â
The Lions will finish their trip to Flagler in the Old Coast Classic with one more game against Newberry on Sunday afternoon.Â
