WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team's comeback efforts at Rollins fell short Saturday afternoon inside the Warden Arena. Saint Leo suffered a 70-57 loss at Rollins moving the Lions' record to 16-8, 11-5 in the Sunshine State Conference while Rollins improved to 6-16, 3-14 in the conference.\
"This was a disappointing road trip to Rollins but kudos to Glen and his program," expressed Saint Leo head coach
Anthony Crocitto. "They earned the win today.
"We weren't focused enough or sharp enough to win on the road. We will be fine but it will take some work on our part to get things right."
Rollins got ahead holding a seven-point lead at the half; 33-26. Saint Leo came back in the fourth (7:12), taking the leader title with a score of 49-48 off a fastbreak bucket by
Tori Lesko. A seven-point run by the Tars just minutes later would set up Rollins to defend its home court. Rollins strung together a jumper in the paint, three-pointer, and layup to reclaim the lead at 59-52 with 2:30 remaining. The Tars sealed the game on the free throw line for the 70-57 final.
"
Amanda Ulrich tried on the offensive end but defensively in the fourth, we relented and were outworked," concluded Crocitto.
Amanda Ulrich, the program's newest 1,000-point club member, and the SSC leading scorer, tallied 20 points for the Lions. Ulrich was joined in scoring double-digits by
Alex Button and Lesko who handed in 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Off the boards, Lesko and
Ayanna Trigg each grabbed a game-high six rebounds. Trigg also recorded a block and a pair of steals.
Saint Leo will look to return to its' winning ways on Wednesday, Feb 16 at 5:30 p.m. The midweek SSC matchup hosting Florida Southern also features the University's Caribbean Night. All Saint Leo students and fans are encouraged to wear their Hawaiian shirts and be ready for cheer on your Lions.
