ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Saint Leo Softball took their first game of the Old Coast Classic hosted by Flagler College on Saturday with a 5-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne.
Rachel Bean was dominant once again for the Lions, surrendering just one run on six hits, while striking out six and going the distance. Bean gave up Lenoir-Rhyne's only run in the first inning giving up an RBI single up the middle to Cassidy Wall. Yet, that would be the only offense Lenoir-Rhyne would be able to produce the rest of the day, unable to get anything across Bean's dominant performance.
The offense for the Lions helped out Bean in the third inning when
Emily Pilon singled home
Alyssa Perez to tie the ballgame at 1-1. Perez got two RBI's of her own in the fourth when she singled home
Bayley Williams Alexandra Hare with a lazer down the left field line to give Saint Leo the lead for good.
Saint Leo added on in the fifth when
Kendyl Crean homered for the first time this season with a solo shot to left center to give the Lions a 4-1 lead.
Perez finished the day 3-for-4 for the Lions two RBI's and two runs scored. Pilon went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. And Williams went perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 drawing a walk and crossing the plate once.
Saint Leo gets above .500 with the win now standing at 3-2 going into their second game of the day on Saturday against Newberry College in the Old Coast Classic.
