SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team, ranked third in the nation, blanked the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Saturday afternoon inside the Saint Leo Tennis Center. The 7-0 win returned the Lions to the win column and improved their overall record to 2-1, 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).
The Green and Gold won the doubles point with victories from the first and third flights.
Bruno Faletto and
Willem Van Den Akker got it done in first doubles; 6-3. Meanwhile,
Nicolas Bacella and
Luis Iriarte handed in a 6-2 third flight decision.
In singles action, Faletto (6-4, 6-2), Baella (6-2, 6-4), and Iriarte (7-5, 6-3) each tallied wins in the first, second, and fifth flights, respectively.
Ghali Mensour won out a long three set battle to preserve the sweep; 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-4. Finally,
Brad Eidenmuller got to work in the six spot, tallying a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Saint Leo will head to Indianapolis, Ind. To compete in the ITA National Indoor Championship. The three-day invite only championship is set to begin on Friday, Feb 18 at 5:30 p.m.
