Game Recap: Baseball |

Saint Leo drops first game at Flagler in nine innings

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Saint Leo Baseball dropped the first of three games at Flagler on Friday night, falling to the Saints, 5-4. Flagler took the game in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off single to complete their comeback against the Lions.

Saint Leo built up a 4-1 lead on Flagler through six innings thanks to a solo home run by Adrien Roa in the fifth inning, his first of the season, and Bobby Sparling's second home run of the season, a three-run blast to deep left center that gave the Lions a three-run lead.

Flagler then started to comeback in the sixth on a two-run RBI double that cut Saint Leo's lead to a single run. Then in the bottom of the ninth, a RBI single tied the game at 4-4. That was quickly followed by a walk-off RBI single to right to lift the Saints over the Lions, 5-4.

Jared Beck had another great start. The senior went 5.2 innings giving up just one run on one hit while striking out 12 and walking just four.

Adrien Roa was the only Lion with a multi-hit night, going 2-for-3 with a RBI. Buck Anderson went 1-for-4 scoring a run, while Bobby Sparling finished 1-for-4 with three RBI's.

Saint Leo drops to 4-2 on the season, while Flagler moves to 2-2. The Lions and Saints will be back at it on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00.
