DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team, ranked third in the nation, was tripped up by the Embry-Riddle Eagles, 4-3, Thursday night in the Sunshine State Conference opener on the road. The decision moved the Green and Gold's overall record to 1-1, 0-1 in the SSC while the Eagles climbed to 1-1 on the early season, 1-0 in the league.
Saint Leo was unable the clinch the doubles point despite second flight duo,
Vincent Thiel and
Brad Eidenmuller handing in a 6-4 victory.
Thiel and Eidenmuller each went on to win their single matches. Thiel battled for his third flight victory, 7-6 (5), 7-5, while Eidenmuller got to work in the sixth spot; 6-3, 6-4.
Luis Iriarte registered the Lions' third team point in the fifth flight. Iriarte came back in a three set battle; 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Saint Leo will look to return to its' winning ways on Saturday, Feb 12 against Palm Beach Atlantic, returning to the Saint Leo Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. between the SSC Lions and Sailfish.
