SAINT LEO, Fla.- The Saint Leo women's basketball team suffered their first defeat of the 2022-23 season in a 70-62 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic. With the loss, the Lions Drop to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.
"All the credit to Palm Beach, as they were well prepared, hungry and played well," said head coach
Anthony Crocitto. "We did, however, miss some very key baskets in clutch situations. It's very hard to win, when you foul 27 times and come up short at the line."
Kiki McIntyre played 35 minutes for the Green & Gold and had a team-high 26 points. 10 of her 26 points came in the first half. McIntyre led all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. She also contributed six assists, three steals, and three rebounds.
Tamara Shash was essential for the Lions on both sides of the court, scoring a total of 10 of the Lions 19 points off the bench and blocking a team-high two shots.
Alex Button also contributed 10 points of her own.
Amanda Ulrich led the Lions defense with four steals.
The Lions had their best field goal percentage in the second quarter averaging an even 60% from the field. Â
Saturday afternoons conference showdown featured back and forth scoring for majority of the game with score being tied seven times. The Lions continued their strong presence in the paint totaling 34 points. Saint Leo kept Palm Beach on their heals throughout the game, fighting hard to force five lead changes throughout the game.
The Sailfish were able to take advantage of the late game fouls by the Lions to grab the conference matchup, 70-62.
As a team, Saint Leo had 12 assists on 23 made shots.
The Lions will look to bounce back with another home game on Tuesday, December 6. The Lions will take on the Florida Tech Panthers with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 PM.
