Lions Improve to 7-1 with Win Over Panthers

SAINT LEO, Fla.- The Saint Leo women's basketball team improved to 7-1 and 2-1 in Sunshine State Conference play with their win over Florida Tech, Tuesday night. The Lions defeated the Panthers 75-56.

Amanda Ulrich led the Lions in scoring tonight with a team-high 23 points. The senior from Secaucus, New Jersey finished the evening shooting 8-of-12 from the floor and 2-for-6 from three-point range. Ulrich led the charge with 36 minutes on the court.

Alex Button led the Lions defense with two blocks and finished second in scoring with 13 points. Alayna Harris contributed a team-high three steals for the Saint Leo defense.

The Lions were able to jump out to their biggest scoring run of the game in the first quarter at eight points. The Green & Gold had their biggest lead of the night at 22 points and controlled the lead for 37:04 minutes against the Panthers and dished out a team-high four assists.

The second half was where the Lions offense shot for their best percentage of the night, averaging 52.38% (11-of-21) in the third quarter and 52.94% (9-of-17) from the field in the fourth quarter.
Saint Leo took advantage of the Florida Tech fouls going 6-for-6 at the line in the second half.

The Lions where able to win the battle at the boards during the conference evening showdown by a 41 to 32 differential. The Green & Gold took advantage of their aggressive play at the boards scoring a total of 14 second chance points. Jumoke Adaramoye and Kiki McIntyre led the way for the Lions off the offensive glass with three offensive boards a piece.

Tamara Shash was once again a vital piece for the Lions off the bench tonight on both ends of the court grabbing six boards and contributing 11 points.

The Lions will hit the road and travel to St. Petersburg on Saturday to face Eckerd College, December 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
