SAINT LEO, Fla. – In its season rematch against Florida Tech, the Saint Leo University volleyball team took care of business Tuesday night, defeating the Panthers 3-1 at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
The win keeps Saint Leo (10-13, 3-9 SSC) perfect at home all-time against the Panthers (12-11, 4-8 SSC).
Senior
Skylar Singleton recorded her third double-double of the season, notching 29 assists with 11 digs, as Junior
Jeanette Henderson nearly matched her career-high in digs with 33 on the night. Redshirt Senior
Elizabeth Sandoval and Sophomore
Colby Stempkowski both recorded 12 kills apiece.
Trailing 11-9 in the opening set, the Lions powered its way through an 8-2 run to take a four-point lead that proved to be the difference maker in the frame as the Lions held the lead en route to a 25-21 win.
Set Two turned into a thriller, as neither side by more than three points the entire frame. FT was on the verge of winning the set with a 25-24 lead before the Lions responded with three, unanswered points to steal a 27-25 win.
Down 22-16 in the third set, the Green & Gold added two more points as the Panthers responded with a point of their own to put the contest at 23-18. Saint Leo followed with a late comeback run of four unanswered points to pull to within one (23-22) before the Maroon & Grey finished with two, ser-clinching points to take a 25-22 set win to extend the match.
The Green & Gold found its largest lead of the set in the fourth frame in a 19-11 lead over the Panthers before FT attempted a late comeback of their own that pushed the difference to as little as five points before Saint Leo cemented its match win with a 25-19 Set Four win.
