SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team returned to its winning ways defeating Florida Tech 78-61 on Saturday inside the Bowman Center. The Lions saw three shooters hit double figures in
Francis Sio,
Jared Coomer, and
Wade Coomer. The weekend victory raised the Lions' overall record to 7-9 and 4-7 in the Sunshine State Conference. Florida Tech's record moved to 9-7 overall and 3-8 in the SSC.
Francis Sio paced the Green and Gold offense with 22 points followed by
Jared Coomer with 17 points and
Wade Coomer with 12.
Frank Webb Jr. led the Lions off the iron with 11 rebounds which paired nicely with his nine points. Saint Leo wrapped up the game shooting a team 45-percent, 47.8-percent from beyond the arc, and 86.7-percent on the free throw line. Meanwhile, the defense held the visiting Panthers to a mere 39-percent from the field, 18.2-percent from the three-point range, and 57.9-percent at the line.
Florida Tech jumped out to a quick 5-0 start that didn't last. Saint Leo took the lead at 7-6 in the opening four minutes and never looked back. The Lions generated multiple 17-point leads in the first half and earned a 20-point lead six times in the second half on their way to victory.
On Wednesday, Jan 26 the Lions return to action in the Bowman Center. Saint Leo is set to host the Eckerd Tritons starting at 7:30 p.m.
