SAINT LEO, Fla. – The ninth-ranked University of Tampa Spartans visited the Marion Bowman Activities Center Saturday afternoon to face off with the Saint Leo volleyball team. The Spartans got off to a quick start and never looked back taking a 3-0 victory in the Sunshine State Conference match-up.

The Lions fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in SSC action while the Spartans improved to 8-1 overall including 2-0 in league action.

Saint Leo struggled to get things rolling offensively against the Spartans who seemed to dig up every close ball in route to the victory. The Lions hit just .073 as a team over the three sets while the Spartans posted a .430 hitting percentage including a second set high of .520.

Sophomore
Margaret Schirm led the way offensively for the Lions as she was able to put down seven kills. Three others added four kills each to the effort. Junior
Skylar Singleton led the team with 15 assists while tying for the team lead in digs with eight. Sophomore
Jeanette Henderson, who came in at libero in the second and third sets, also finished with a team-high eight digs.

The Spartans had two attackers reach double-figures in kills led by Kalli Cors who had a match-high 14.

Tampa took the match in straight-sets 25-15, 25-9, 25-17.

The Lions will next hit the road for their first Sunshine State Conference road contest of the season as the Lions face Eckerd Tuesday night in Saint Petersburg.
