ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team opened up the road portion of its 2021 Sunshine State Conference slate falling in midweek action at Eckerd Tuesday night, 3-0. The Tritons, who are off to an 8-3 start, jumped out to an early lead and did not look back.

The Lions fall to 4-7 on the year including 0-3 in conference play. The Tritons on the other hand improved to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in SSC action.

Junior
Elizabeth Sandoval led the Lion attack with seven kills while six others finished with three or more kills in the match. Senior
Anna Garrett and junior
Skylar Singleton continued to split time at setter for the Lions with Garrett finishing with 13 assists and five digs while Singleton came in with 12 assists and six digs.

Sophomore
Jeanette Henderson took over the libero role after stepping in late in the Tampa match this past weekend. She led the team with 18 digs against the Tritons while also dishing out five assists.

The Tritons were led by a pair of hitters who tied Sandoval for the match-lead in kills as they each finished with seven in the match. Anna Jungjohann proved to be a force at the net for the Tritons as she rejected 11 Saint Leo attacks. Overall the Tritons had 12 blocks over the three sets compared to just five for the Lions.

Eckerd finished the match with a .240 hitting percentage including posting a match-high .344 percentage in the third set. The Lions finished the match at .120, with their best set coming in the third with a .225 mark.

Saint Leo fell 25-22, 25-15 and 25-19 Tuesday night inside the McArthur Center.

The Lions will now turn their attention to the undefeated Sharks of Nova Southeastern who will visit the Marion Bowman Activities Center Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. match. Â
