Lions Unable to Upset No. 9 Tampa in Tight Battle on the Road

TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions and Tampa Spartans, who are ranked ninth nationally, met for a tight 90-minute Sunshine State Conference battle Wednesday night at Pepin Stadium. The Green and Gold outshot the Spartans 13-8 but couldn't match the host's lone goal, settling for a 1-0 loss.

Saint Leo's (3-9-2, 1-5-1 SSC) strong offensive was led by Miguel Fernandez and Noah Nixon with two shots apiece. Noah Kvifte and Arthur Bergami also added dangerous shots on goal, respectively.

Tampa (10-2, 7-1 SSC) beat the halftime horn by one second for the win off the foot of Juancho Fernandez.

Riccardo Zarri protected the Lions' net for another 90 minutes, in which he earned two stops.

Saint Leo will continue action on the road. The Lions' next business trip is on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Nova Southeastern. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
