SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its season finale regional rankings this week. The ITA decided there was not enough competitions to create a national singles or doubles poll but enough local competitions were played for a closing regional list. Among the regional rankings, the Saint Leo women's tennis team were honored with four awards; three singles and a double south region ranking in the form of
Kristyna Jurkova,
Marta Vicens Miquel,
Molly Helgesson, and
Nina Furmaniak. Overall, the 2020 Saint Leo Lions finished eighth nationally recording an overall record of 8-4, 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).
Kristyna Jurkova wrapped up her senior season ranked ninth in singles among the south region. The top-10 honor followed a 7-3 season going 3-2 against nationally-ranked opponents. She earned a 6-3 mark competing at second singles. Jurkova ended the 2020 season on a four-match win streak.
Marta Vicens Miquel was named 12
th in singles action. The junior compiled an 8-2 singles record going 7-2 at the third spot, 1-0 at second. Vicens Miquel also closed the season on a four-match win streak.
Molly Helgesson, a newcomer to the Green and Gold, pulled in a 14
th singles ranking. The sophomore registered a 6-5 singles record, all matches coming from the first singles spot. Helgesson wrapped up the season on a three-match win streak.
In doubles action, Jurkova and partner
Nina Furmaniak were named fifth in the region. The duo went 7-3 together in the first doubles slot. They went 2-1 while facing nationally-ranked opponents, 2-2 against regionally-ranked foes. Jurkova and Furmaniak also closed the season in the win column, taking their last three matches.
