SAINT LEO, Fla. – Thirteen student-athletes on the Saint Leo University women's tennis team were named Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) while collectively, the squad was honored by the organization with its All-Academic Team Award.

Seniors Candice Bernier, Camila Keller, Paris Marozzelli, and Alexandra Warchausky, juniors Arianna Bettinelli, Nora Catanzarite, Madelyn Martin, Karina Montoya, and Catherine Rabatin, sophomores Sophia Johnson and Deren Ozel, and freshmen Nicol Novak and Thea Sara were all recognized individually for their achievements off the court in the classroom. It is the third honor for Bettinelli, Catanzarite, Martin, and Montoya, the second for Marozzelli, Warchausky, and Johnson, and first for Bernier, Keller, Ozel, Novak, and Sara.

Saint Leo had the second-most honorees of any NCAA Division II institution with 13 while fellow Sunshine State Conference member Barry led the way with 14.

The individual awards are bestowed upon varsity student-athletes that have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters and possess a grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the academic year. The team award goes to ITA programs that have a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above.

Saint Leo is one of nine schools from the SSC to earn the ITA All-Academic Team award including Barry, Eckerd, Embry-Riddle, Florida Southern, Lynn, Nova Southeastern, Rollins and Tampa. A total of 83 individuals received the Scholar-Athlete distinction from the SSC. Barry led the way with 14 recipients followed by Saint Leo with 13. Embry-Riddle also earned double-digit numbers with 12 while Florida Southern and Nova Southeastern came in with nine. Rollins chipped in eight while Lynn and Eckerd claimed seven followed by Tampa with four.   

The Lions have taken home the ITA Team Academic Award for 15 of the last 16 seasons. A total of 112 individuals have been ITA Scholar-Athletes during that time as well.
