SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 15 Saint Leo softball blanked Wilmington on Wednesday night in a doubleheader sweep at University Softball Stadium. The Green and Gold used second inning energy to produce all runs necessary to shutout the Wildcats 11-0 in five innings in game one and 2-0 in game two.
Saint Leo scattered 15 hits in the 12 innings scoring nine of the 13 total runs in the second inning. All nine players to dig into the box registered a hit where
Alli Jaquith paced the team going 3-for-4 in the two games including a 3-for-3 performance in game one with two RBI.
Grace Spitulski,
Bethany Kursch,
Sarah Pauscher, and
Maddy Lynn all notched two hits while
Alexis Miniet,
Emily Pilon,
Sadi Avants, and
Kacie Kelly all tallied one. Ten different Lions scored a run led by Kursch's three and Lynn's two.
All three pitchers that stepped in the circle finished the night with four strikeouts and no runs scored.
Rachel Bean, who also scored a run in game one of the night to help her own cause, tossed the five-inning complete game to open the night.
Sadi Avants who earned the win in game two went 4.0 innings before turning things over to
Madi Mott who finished it off for 3.0 innings of work to pick up her first save in the Green and Gold jersey.

Alli Jaquith got things going in the first game with a single up the middle to drive in the game-winning run in
Bethany Kursch. Jaquith would cross the plate with
Kacie Kelly on
Sarah Pauscher's three-run homer to make it 4-0. An
Alexis Miniet double plated
Emily Pilon before
Maddy Lynn's single to left field scored Miniet and
Sadi Avants for a seven-spot in the second inning.
Getting back to work, the Lions scored four more in the bottom of the fourth to put the run-rule in effect before Bean and the Lions mowed down the Wildcats in order with two groundouts and a strikeout.
A slower offensive game, the Lions were held to just three hits in game two but
Grace Spitulski's double in the second proved to be enough as Kursch and Lynn came in for a 2-0 lead.
Wilmington left nine runners on over the final five innings including a bases third and fifth innings.
Madi Mott closed the door with a strikeout looking to end the game with runners at second and third.

Saint Leo will travel to Winter Park, Fla. Friday and Saturday to tango with the third-ranked Rollins Tars for a three-game Sunshine State Conference series. Game one is slated for March 6 at 6 p.m. while the doubleheader is scheduled for March 7 starting at 1 p.m.
