SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team returned home Monday night as the Lions hosted the University of Minnesota Crookston in a non-conference contest. The Golden Eagles used a three-run seventh inning to earn the 5-2 victory over the Lions.

The loss drops Saint Leo's record to 3-14 while Minnesota Crookston improved to 6-4.

Junior
Sam Crail led the Lions as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Three other Lions picked up hits in the loss including freshman
Zach Benson, senior
Brett Esau and freshman
Ariel Martinez. Benson and Esau's hits went for doubles while Martinez earned a steal in the loss.

Senior
Jake Vander Wal and Benson earned the Lions' two RBI. Benson sent a double down the first base line to score Martinez in the fifth while Vander Wal sent a deep fly ball to center field to scored Crail from third.

Freshman
Andy Booth earned the start for the Lions and went 5.1 innings on the mound. He struck out a pair while walking two. He allowed 10 hits while giving up a pair of runs. Senior
Trevor Sanchez suffered the loss after going two thirds of an inning while giving up three runs including two earned. Three pitchers combined to complete the final three innings while posting a combined five strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

The Golden Eagles jumped out ahead 1-0 on a solo home run in the second. The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning when Benson tied the game with his RBI double. Crookston struck again in the sixth for a single run but the Lions answered again in the bottom half with Vander Wal's sacrifice fly. The Golden Eagles tallied the final runs of the game in the seventh as they plated three off of four hits and a pair of Saint Leo errors. Â Â Â

The Lions will return to action Friday night at 6 p.m. as they host Kentucky Wesleyan for a single game. Â Â
