Swimming Hosts Florida Tech During Senior Day

  • Saint Leo swimming closes out the 2019-20 regular season Friday afternoon by hosting Rollins for a dual meet.
  • The Saint Leo men continue to be ranked 23rd in the TYR/CSCAA Division II Poll while the women recently dropped out of the top-25.
  • The men are currently 5-1 on the season in dual meets after defeating Florida Tech 115-90 in a meet last Friday in Melbourne.
  • The women are also 5-1 on the year and are coming off a 125-80 win over Florida Tech.
  • Saint Leo will honor its 18 seniors prior to the meet, 11 men and seven women. The senior class consists of several Saint Leo school record holders and one National Champion in the form of Henrik Dahrendorff.
  • Rollins received votes in both the men's and women's national poll. The men are 4-5 this season in dual meets and have won their last two. The women are 3-6 and have dropped two of the last three.
  • HISTORY: The Lions and Tars meet for the second time this season after Saint Leo swept the Tars in Winter Park to open the 2019-20 season. The Saint Leo men won 165-97 led by sophomore Hampus Lovinge who won three individual events and a relay. The Saint Leo women took the meet 149-113 and it was sophomore Vittoria Bonsanti Feniello leading the way with three victories.
  • Saint Leo track returns to action this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.
  • The Lions opened the 2020 season last weekend at the same location as part of the Emory Crossplex Showdown. The Lions picked up nine top-10 finishes including a victory in the men's 5,000m. Freshman Pierre Galbourdin outpaced the competition to a meet record time of 15:00.58 in the 5K.
  • This weekend the Lions will compete in two different meets at the same location. The Friday and Saturday meet is hosted by the University of Alabama Birmingham and is titled the Green and Gold Invitational. Sunday's meet will be the KMS Invitational and will take place at the same location.
  • The Lions will send 10 men and 10 women to compete over the three days.
  • These two meets are the second and third indoor meets of the year for the Lions. Saint Leo has two more indoor events on their schedule before they open outdoor season in late February.

  • Saint Leo has not enjoyed time on the road this season. It looked to end its road troubles Wednesday but fell 61-51 after cutting the game to just four points late in the fourth quarter. Gina Brierley was the top performer at Eckerd, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Alex Button added 11 points with five rebounds while Alani Gallagher scored a game-high 17 points, 10 in the third quarter.
  • Amanda Ulrich paces the offense with 14.2 points per game (ppg) followed closely by Gallagher (13.7) and Button (13.1). Gallagher, a junior forward, leads the Green and Gold off the boards with 7.3 rebounds per game (rpg). Gallagher also leads the conference in blocks with 27, averaging 1.5 stops a game.
  • Saint Leo sits eighth among the SSC standings. As a team, the Lions average 72.4 ppg shooting a team .428-percent from the floor, .671-percent from the line. Off the window, the squad averages 37.1 rpg.
  • Florida Tech carries a three-game losing skid after a 61-49 loss at Rollins on Wednesday. Aniquah Swan had a standout performance as the senior posted a team-high in both points with 12 and rebounds with six. Fanny Hakanson continued her work as play maker, tacking on six more assists to lead the conference with a season average of 6.2 assists per game with 112 total.
  • November Morton paces the Panther's season offense with 10.2 ppg just above Swan with 10.1 ppg. Amanda Allen helps with 9.9 ppg and a team-high 5.1 rpg.
  • The Panthers sit one spot above the Lions at number seven in the SSC league standings. As a unit, Florida Tech scores 64.3 ppg shooting a team .392-percent while converting .749-percent of free throws. In addition, the Panthers have put together a team average of 34.5 rpg.
  • HISTORY: Saint Leo and Florida Tech will meet for the second time this season where it was the Green and Gold on Nov. 23 that won the first meeting 82-67. Alex Button scored a career-high 27 points in the win. The last time the Lions traveled to Melbourne, Saint Leo edged the Panthers 58-52.
  • RECORDS: Saint Leo 13-5, 7-3 SSC | Florida Tech 9-9, 3-7 SSC
  • Saint Leo travels to Melbourne on a four-game win streak and after just edging out Eckerd Wednesday night 79-77. The Lions saw Kyran McClure drop 28 points in the effort but it was Isaiah Hill who sealed the win with a rebound and layup with under eight seconds on the clock.
  • McClure, Hill, and Rusty Moorer continue to lead the Lions in scoring, averaging 21.2, 15.3, and 10.9 points per game (ppg), respectively.
  • The Green and Gold defense continues to lead the SSC at 70.6 ppg where it ranked in the top-75 of DII institutions in the nation. The Lions offense comes into the matchup Saturday ranked ninth at 77.7 points per game. In SSC games only, Saint Leo ranks seventh in scoring (80.7) and third in defense (79.2).
  • Florida Tech carries a loss into the matchup after falling on the road at Rollins by 20, 87-67. In the loss, Derek Murphy and Sesan Russell led the team in scoring with 21 and 19 points, respectively. Murphy completed his double-double with a 13-rebound effort.
  • On the season, Murphy leads the team in scoring at 23.0 ppg while Russell is second at 17.6 ppg.
  • The Panthers are ranked seventh in offense in the league at 80.3 ppg while they are fifth in defense at 77.6. In SSC games alone, Tech is ranked ninth in offense (73.8) and is fourth in defense (80.6).
  • HISTORY: In the meeting earlier this year to open SSC play, the Lions snuck away with a 75-70 win at home where three players scored in double-figures led by McClure with 21 points. Russell paced the Panthers with 22 points in the loss. In the all-time series, Saint Leo continues to hold a 19-9 advantage with a four-game win streak and 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. With games played in Melbourne, the series is even, 7-7.
