WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Saint Leo volleyball, who was receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) coaches poll, extended its winning streak to six matches after a 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18) win at Palm Beach Atlantic inside Rubin Arena Friday night.

The Lions (9-2, 3-0 SSC) dropped the first set 25-19 to Palm Beach Atlantic (6-5, 1-2 SSC) before ripping off the final three sets 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 to complete the 3-1 come back, the third of its kind this season.

Michelle Cuervo paced the Lions with 13 kills, her second straight double-digit kill match, posting 27 in the past two matches (14 at Tampa on Sept. 21).
Anilise Fitzi,
Victoria Omoregie, and
Annabella Arcari all tied for second on the team with eight kills on the night.

Anna Garrett dished out 41 assists as
Payton Bellano and
Skylar Singleton each posted double-digit digs on the night. Bellano tallied 21 as Singleton notched 10.

Saint Leo took an early lead in the first set but dropped the opening stanza 25-19. The Sailfish took command of set two with an early 8-3 lead but the Green and Gold fought back and tied things at 22-22 before rattling off two kills to end the set from
Victoria Omoregie and
Brooke Turner to even the match.

The Lions' momentum carried into the third set for a quick 3-0 lead but another close set saw a 19-16 lead forcing a Sailfish timeout. After two quick points from PBA, 19-18, the Lions took a timeout and closed out the set 25-22 on kills from
Ashley Quero and
Michelle Cuervo for a 2-1 lead on the road.

Momentum continued for the Lions, rolling out to a 10-3 lead in the fourth and decisive set. The Sailfish would climb to get within three points, 17-14, but the Lions would double it up to six at 22-15. Leading 24-18,
Annabella Arcari and
Victoria Omoregie teamed up for a block to win with a final set, 25-18.

The Lions' road trip continues tomorrow with a tough test in Miami Shores against no. 25 Barry (7-4, 2-1 SSC).
