DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team was unable to answer Embry-Riddle's opening minute goal, handing the Lions a 1-0 loss in their Sunshine State Conference debut Saturday night.
Embry-Riddle's (1-2, 1-0 SSC) Roberto Whitley scored his season's first goal in the first 48 seconds of play. The quick strike proved enough to upend the Green and Gold.
Saint Leo (2-4, 0-1 SSC) took seven shots to the host's nine. Both teams placed five shots on frame.
Federico Tellechea led the offensive efforts with three shots, two on target.
In goal,
Wessel Berenschot earned four saves during his fourth start, fifth game appearance.
The Lions return home to host Montevallo on Wednesday, September 25 at 3 p.m.
