AIKEN, S.C. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team (1-3) posted a 3-1 decision over the USC Aiken Pacers (1-2) on Sunday. The Lions tallied both goals in the first half jump-started by
Guillaume Campos header, assisted by
Peter Holt. The Green and Gold's lead widened off an own goal by the Pacers in the 24th-minute.
In the eighth minute,
Peter Holt fed a 20-yard ball to Campos, who recorded the early lead. After the Pacers scored an own goal, the Lions held onto a 2-0 lead at the half.
After a quiet 35 minutes in the second stanza, the Pacers got on the scoreboard in the midst of a scramble inside the box. Saint Leo answered in less than one minute when
Roberto Biendicho scored the insurance goal at the 85th-minute mark.
Wessel Berenschot earned the win in the net. He faced eight shots while tallying three saves.
Saint Leo prepares for their 2019 home opener, set for Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. The Lions will host the Pensacola Christian Eagles.
