SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions earned a ticket to the 2019 NCAA Women's Tennis South Regional I as the fourth-seed. The NCAA selection show Tuesday night announced Saint Leo as one of seven schools to advance to regional play. The No. 4 Saint Leo Lions will face the No. 5 Florida Southern Moccasins on Monday, May 13 in Miami Shores, Fla. as Barry earned the top spot and hosting rights.
Under the direction of third-year head coach
Chad Berryhill, Saint Leo was polled among the top-10 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association including eight-straight weeks among the top-3 in the national rankings.
Saint Leo (19-6, 8-2) finished the regular season third in the Sunshine State Conference. During the SSC Championships, the third-seeded Lions finished fourth taking a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Barry in the consolation match.
Marta Vicens Miquel has led the Lions at first singles recording a 16-7 record. Meanwhile,
Kristyna Jurkova earned a 15-7 mark in second singles followed by
Nina Furmaniak with a 17-3 record in third singles.
The doubles teams have put together a 43-31 season mark highlighted by
Andrea Ivanovic and
Kristyna Jurkova with a 13-5 record in first doubles.
