SAINT LEO, Fla. – It was a tale of two games Thursday afternoon as the Saint Leo baseball team battled Florida Southern at home. In game one, sophomore
McCabe Sargent pitched his first career complete game while shutting out the Moccasins and holding them to just two hits in a 2-0 victory. In game two it was the Lions 13
th one-run loss of the season and sixth-straight as a late comeback fell short 4-3.

The Lions and Mocs finish the day with the same overall record of 22-24 while Saint Leo sits at 11-15 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Mocs are 8-18.

Sargent continued his strong pitching of late as he went eight or more innings for the third-straight game. He finished with an impressive line of 9.0 innings pitched, four strikeouts, two hits allowed and one walk. The sophomore carried a no-hitter through the sixth inning until a lead-off single by the Mocs in the seventh ended the streak.

Senior
Jared Morello and junior
Jacob Reimold were the only Lions with more than one hit. Morello was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, a run scored and a home run. Reimold went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double.

The Lions two runs came in the fourth and the fifth. Morello led off the fourth with a solo shot to right field to give the Lions the lead. Reimold then led off the fifth with a double down the third base line. Je was then advanced to third by
Paul Coumoulos and brought home by
Danny Torres who sent a sacrifice fly to right field.

Florida Southern jumped out to a 4-0 lead after six innings in game two. The Lions struggled to get rolling until the ninth rolled around and the Lions plated three runs, nearly tying the game.
Amir Wright led off the inning with a walk, Morello then doubled to right centerfield to put runners on second and third with no outs. Isaacson then sent a deep fly ball to centerfield to scored Wright and advance Morello to third.

Brett Coffel drew the second walk of the inning to put runners on first and third.
Mike Wyman sent a grounder to second base which scored Morello as Coffel was thrown out at second. A single by Reimold and a walk to Coumoulos loaded the bases with two outs and the Lions down by two. Torres drew the fourth walk of the inning which brought home the third run of the inning. The Mocs were able to induce a strikeout to the final Lion batter which ended the game.

Redshirt senior
Shane Haight suffered the loss for the Lions as he went 5.0 innings with a strikeout and a walk. He allowed eight base hits and saw four runs cross the plate. Junior
Joey Antonopoulos pitched the final 4.0 innings with a strikeout, a walk and three hits allowed. Â

The Lions close out the home portion of their 2019 schedule tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. with the decisive game against Florida Southern. The Lions will honor eight seniors prior to first pitch with a scheduled ceremony start time of 12:30 p.m. Â Â
