VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Saint Leo baseball team played its final non-Sunshine State Conference contest of the season Tuesday night at Valdosta State. The Lions, who defeated VSU 6-5 in 10 innings earlier this season, fell Tuesday 11-6 after giving up a four-run fifth inning. Five different Lions registered two hits in the game with four extra base hits sprinkled in the mix.

Jacob Reimold continued his hot streak. After blasting a pair of home runs Saturday against Nova Southeastern, Reimold registered his team-leading ninth home run of the season versus the Blazers. The junior finished 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.

Derek Gibree posted a 2-for-4 day at the dish with a run scored, an RBI and a pair of doubles. Senior
Jared Morello posted the only other extra base knock as he went 1-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a double.

PJ Barry all posted two hits days while Mumaw and Barry each added an RBI.

The Lions sent five pitchers to the mound with redshirt sophomore
Jeremy Peel going a team-long 3.1 innings. Peel struck out three and walked one while allowing five hits. He took home the loss, his third of the season. Freshman
Dariel Fregio had the most effective outing while pitching the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout and no hits allowed.

VSU scored a pair of runs in the first and added a solo tally in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Lions responded in the fourth as Mumaw singled to left centerfield to scored Coffel for the first run of the game. Barry then used a groundout to score Reimold cutting the Blazer lead to just one.

Morello provided the game-tying RBI double in the fifth as he drove a ball down the right field line to score Gibree. The Blazers immediately responded with six hits and four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-3 lead which they would never surrender.

Saint Leo cut the lead to two with a pair of runs in the sixth but the Blazers matched the two in the bottom half. After a scoreless seventh by Saint Leo, VSU added two more runs to their total for a final of 11. The Lions started a comeback in the ninth but only one run made it across as the game ended, 11-6.

The Lions will close out their road swing this weekend as they travel to Rollins College to take on the Tars Friday, April 12 and Saturday April 13.
