Reimold Homers Twice to Lift Lions over Sharks

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – For the first time since 2008 the Saint Leo baseball team went into Fort Lauderdale and came away with a victory as the Lions defeated Nova Southeastern 15-7 in game two of their doubleheader. The victory snapped a 17-game losing streak in the series for the Lions and also snapped a 17-game losing streak at the home of the Sharks for Saint Leo. Junior Jacob Reimold led the offensive effort for the Lions as he went deep twice to drive in three of the Lions 15 runs.
 
Nova Southeastern won the opening game 12-3 to win the series 2-1 over the Lions. Saint Leo improved to 17-17 overall and 6-9 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Sharks fell to 23-13 and 12-9 in league action.
 
Reimold finished 2-for-5 in the victory at the plate with a pair of runs scored and two home runs. Senior Peyton Isaacson was 2-for-3 with three RBI, three runs scored, two walks and a home run. Redshirt sophomore Danny Torres also had a pair of hits in the victory as he went 2-for-5 at the dish. He added a pair of runs scored.
 
Junior Amir Wright, senior Jared Morello and redshort freshman PJ Barry all picked up two RBI in the win.
 
Junior Joey Antonopoulos took home the victory on the mound after coming on in the third inning and pitching 4.0 innings. He finished with four strikeouts, three walks and no hits allowed. Freshman Brady McGarry came on to pitch the final 3.0 innings and struck out three while not allowing a run. McGarry took home his second save of the season while Antonopoulos improved to 4-3 on the mound.
 
The Lions scored four runs in the first, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and the eighth and one in the seventh to take the victory. NSU led the game until the fourth inning when the Lions broke open the contest.
 
Six different Lions had hits in game one of the doubleheader with sophomore Adrien Roa providing a pinch hit two RBI home run in the ninth for the Lions.
 
Sophomore McCabe Sargent suffered the loss going 3.2 innings on the mound while striking out three and walking three. He allowed three hits and five runs to score.
 
The Lions will head out of conference for the last time this season Tuesday, April 9 at 5 p.m. as they travel to take on the Blazers of Valdosta State.
